At COP26, our strategic partner Resilience First has been hosting a series of fringe events, exploring the challenges and opportunities for businesses to step up and take the necessary action to protect people and the planet.

Business Climate Resilience Reception: If Not Now, Then When? 

On Sunday Oct 31, Resilience First were delighted to be joined by guest speakers Martyn Link, Chief Strategy Officer of Resilience First Ambassador, Wood plc; Harry Bowcott, Senior Partner – Sustainability Lead, McKinsey & Company; Shakti Ramkumar, Director of Policy & Communications, Student Energy; and Daniella Levine Cava, Miami-Dade County’s first woman Mayor.

The evening featured guest presentations on the role of the private sector in stepping up and taking action to address the urgent issue of climate change globally and also offered business leaders, together with other key stakeholders, the opportunity to begin important collaborative conversations ahead of the official opening of COP26.

Topics covered included the #RaceToResilience, the role of private capital in resilience-building, and the desire for systems change.

Race to Resilience Breakfast Briefing – A Business-led Climate Resilience Initiative: Turning Aspirations into Action.

Resilience First is one of 25 Partner Initiatives in the #RaceToResilience campaign, spearheaded by the High-Level Climate Champions. On the third day of COP26, Resilience First hosted a Breakfast Briefing alongside three great advocates for the campaign, making the case for why we need to cross this finishing line together: Payal Thadani, Business Engagement Team, Race to Resilience, UNFCCC’s High Level Climate Champions Team; Peter Hall, VP, Global Director for Sustainable & Resilient Infrastructure, Wood plc; and David Howlett, Co-lead, Race to Resilience, UNFCCC’s High Level Climate Champions Team.

The session centred around the role of the private sector in the #RaceToResilience campaign and invited business leaders to see how they can get involved and sign up to the #RaceToResilience pledges.

Business Leaders roundtable dinner discussion on Climate Resilience Leadership: The New Competitive Advantage

Resilience First’s final event was a private roundtable dinner discussion with business leaders to explore the leadership skills required to lead a successful climate-resilience strategy across businesses and sectors.

Guest speaker, Lieutenant General (Retd) Richard Nugee CB CVO CBE, led a discussion on what actions and key skills are required by business leaders to drive more rapid and effective change. He was joined by guest speaker Joseph Sczurko, Executive President Consulting, Wood plc.
