Resilience4Ports kicks off with its first industry workshop, bringing together stakeholders from across the entire ports and maritime shipping value chain, exploring opportunities for resilient, system-wide, transformation through the lenses port communities & environment, decarbonisation and technology and digital innovations.
Stage One Kick Off
Stage One of Resilience4Ports involves a major scoping study and stakeholder engagement to define the programme actions and exploring the nature of a port as a system within systems. These will then form a framework for the resilience enhancing actions partners will take forward into Stage Two.
Participants include major global port hubs including Singapore and Rotterdam, the Lloyd’s Register Foundation, the Alliance for Global Water Adaption, maritime energy and technology companies, government agencies and infrastructure resilience and climate groups.
Exploring Resilience
In the first workshop, participants will address:
- What trends and developments will affect port resilience, now and into the future?
- What opportunities will these present to enhance resilience? And what about new vulnerabilities?
Participants will be led in interactive presentations on the place of ports within multiple infrastructure systems and their interdependency with each other across multiple functions and examine existing resilience challenges and disruptors.
The Resilience4Ports approach builds on our successes to date, such as the rigorous, evidence-based collaborative, multi-stakeholder methodology used to develop the City Water Resilience Approach and pilot it in several cities.
The workshops sets in motion the collaborative approach the Resilience Shift knows will help drive progress in embedding resilience in ports, ensuring they are able to withstand and adapt to changing conditions and recover positively from shocks and stresses.
Resilience4Ports takes place in the context of the multiple global drivers of change to critical infrastructure systems – water, transport, energy and communications – that ports and supply chains face, in particular decarbonisation technology and climate change.
Resilience4Ports will work with public and private stakeholders to define shared societal, environmental and economic outcomes, and broker action-oriented partnerships to achieve these outcomes.
