The new awards programme and showcase, launched by Wood and The Resilience Shift, will share inspiring examples of resilient infrastructure and the pioneering teams behind them who chose to do things differently.

All facets of society urgently need to build asset and infrastructure resilience to climate change and other uncertainties, such as pandemic, cyberterrorism, system failure or other emerging areas of vulnerability.

The Resilience Realized Awards is a new, multi-year collaboration between Wood and The Resilience Shift that will give recognition to those projects around the world that are at the cutting edge of resilience. It will put a spotlight on organizations and governments that are inspiring transformational change in what they do and how they do it to create resilient outcomes ready for current and future uncertainties.

We will be inviting entries from 1st November 2021 through to March 2022. Find out more.

Resilience Realized aims to bring together and showcase the best examples globally of innovative approaches to creating and realizing resilient assets and infrastructure systems in practice.

“Through the Race to Resilience, we are seeing global recognition of the need to build resilience to climate events and other emerging vulnerabilities. The question now for everyone is how best to deliver resilient assets and infrastructure in practice and at scale. Rewarding the best examples of this through the Resilience Realized Awards will help to inspire this action” – Gonzalo Muñoz and Nigel Topping, High Level Champions for Climate Action at COP26, UNFCCC, for Chile and the UK.

Created by Wood and The Resilience Shift, the Resilience Realized Awards website, and showcase of submitted and shortlisted projects, will serve as a resource to inspire, motivate and enhance the resilience of assets and infrastructure systems. The stories and examples presented will galvanize new best practices and introduce creative ways to deliver the future-ready resilient assets and infrastructure the world requires.

As our strategic partner for this initiative, Wood is a global leader in consulting and engineering across energy and the built environment, helping to unlock solutions to some of the world’s most critical challenges. It provides consulting, projects and operations solutions in more than 60 countries, employing around 40,000 people. They say, “We recognise that achieving a sustainable, resilient and liveable future is one of the biggest challenges facing our generation, so this underpins all that we do”.

Entering the awards – benefits for entrants?

Resilience Realized represents a gold standard for asset and infrastructure projects. Organizations that submit entries will also be contributing to a valuable resource for practitioners, with the potential for their ideas to be used as best practice worldwide.

Winners of the award will have achieved the recognition of, and engagement with, our panel of judges made up of industry leaders and pioneers in best practice for resilience. Winning project teams will have the opportunity to have their projects promoted by Wood and Resilience Shift as examples of excellence.

“I’m delighted that state-of-the-art and best practice examples for energy infrastructure resilience will be showcased and recognized through next year’s awards. It is good practice to acknowledge and recognize passion, dedication and hard work. I look forward to witnessing real innovation and pioneering work through this initiative.” – K.N. Gunalan, 2020 President of American Society of Civil Engineers, and Senior Vice President, AECOM.

Showcasing resilience best practice – who should enter?

We want projects to show how they have enhanced whole system resilience. How did the project’s purpose and desired outcome improve upon or benefit all stakeholders involved including the community of end users? We want to understand not what the project is, but what it does and how it ensures resilient outcomes.

We are specifically looking for asset and infrastructure projects that demonstrate an innovative approach or change in practice. For the 2021-22 Awards cycle, the focus should relate to energy resilience but can originate from any sector.

“We want to seek out the best and most inspiring voices, and share their work, to enable others to do the same, to build a safer and better world.” – Ruth Boumphrey, Director of Research, Lloyd’s Register Foundation.

Full entry criteria and terms will be published in autumn 2021 as the Awards open.
