10 insights into what really matters for resilience? Tell us more.

When we first set up The Resilience Shift and the question of identity came up, resilience was very difficult to define visually. It’s one of those subjects that suffers from being hard to picture if you don’t just want to use “˜disaster’ imagery or a picture of a piece of infrastructure.

We were inspired by many stories and images, but one kept coming back again and again. That of trees bending in the wind – adapting to the conditions, recovering quickly, even evolving to work with the wind. The wavy lines on our logo came from that idea several iterations later.

It clearly doesn’t capture everything about resilience, or critical infrastructure resilience in particular, but we have been inspired to use it on a new publication we’ve created that gives an overview of why we exist, who we are, what we do and how we do it.

Securing our future through resilient infrastructure also includes 10 insights we are sharing into what matters for resilience, drawn from our work to date. Although they seem quite simple at first glance, they represent a commonality of views and experience from different perspectives across the infrastructure value chain.

We analysed our outputs – using our research with industry and insight from our grantees and convenings. We asked our friends at Cambridge University to conduct the same exercise independently, and the result is this first list that is now underpinning much of our programmatic work.
